Faraz Ali is an Indian writer and director working across cinema and photography. Mentored by Werner Herzog at the Rogue Film School, Munich, he made his feature debut with Shoebox (2021), a portrait of a city in transition through its fading single-screen cinemas. The film received critical acclaim at festivals and was nominated for the FilmLight Colour Award at Camerimage.
He edited Succulent (2022), which premiered at Palm Springs International ShortFest, and directed the Kashmiri short film Óbur (2024) for Apple, which was warmly received by critics and recognised at the Critics' Choice Awards. Alongside filmmaking, his photography captures cultural and emotional narratives through intimate and observational imagery.
