Biography

Benedict Taylor is an award-winning composer & violist, specialising in contemporary music and improvisation. He's known for his work in Ship of Theseus, Maunraag, Killa and The Bright Day, alongside a busy composing career in settings varying from mainstream to experimental composition working collaboratively with artists, from film makers to contemporary dance and theatre companies, including recent acclaimed work at the Royal Court Theatre, London.

He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music & Goldsmiths College, and is a leading figure within the area of contemporary composition and string performance, at the forefront of the British & European new music scene. He composes, performs and records throughout the UK, EU and Asia, working as a commissioned composer and performer, both as a soloist and with a number of top ensembles, in many of the worlds leading venues and festivals.

Benedict is involved with a number of higher education institutions, giving lectures and seminars in composition and performance at the Royal College of Music London and Goldsmiths College, amongst others. He is the founder and artistic director of CRAM, a music collective and independent record label dedicated to new and improvised music.
