  • Rebecca Murga is a Chicago-born, Puerto Rican writer-director with a sharp, muscular voice rooted in her military service and tells grounded, character-driven stories with humor, heart, and authenticity.

    Her television credits include serving as a writer and Co-Producer on ABC’s Will Trent and writing on Apple TV’s Swagger. Her feature and development work includes Fast Company, written for Steven Soderbergh’s company at New Line Cinema, as well as the Lisa Lisa biopic for Lifetime. She is also collaborating with Spike Lee on multiple projects, including a coming-of-age ROTC drama at Amazon Studios, where she serves as a writer and executive producer, and the feature Liberty, in development at Netflix.

    Murga first began her career as a sports producer before joining the U.S. Army following 9/11, serving as a Public Affairs Officer with deployments to Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan. After her service, she worked as a Spanish-language news producer covering stories ranging from domestic immigration issues to U.S. Special Forces operations in Mexico and Central America.

    In addition to her scripted work, Murga directs and produces films, documentaries, commercials, and branded content. Her collaborators include ABC, CBS, CBS Sports, Mundo FOX, ESPN, HBO, Comcast, the NBA, MLB, Walgreens, the Ad Council, and A&E Networks.

    Murga is an alum of the Disney ABC Television Directing Program, the Ryan Murphy Half Initiative, and the Rideback Television Incubator. She is also a graduate of the AFI Directing Workshop for Women and holds an MFA in Writing for Television from Loyola Marymount University.
