Morgan Knibbe is a film director, cinematographer and writer, most known for The Garden of Earthly Delights (2025), Those Who Feel the Fire Burning (2014), Shipwreck (2014), and The Atomic Soldiers (2018). His immersive and visceral work has received international acclaim and has been featured by The New York Times, VICE, and The Atlantic.
Morgan’s fiction feature debut The Garden of Earthly Delights (2025) was filmed in the Philippines and delves into the enduring scars of postcolonial exploitation. The film won the Grand Prize for Best Film at the Torino Film Festival and swept four Dutch Academy Awards (Golden Calves), including Best Director.
His short Shipwreck (2014) and feature documentary Those Who Feel the Fire Burning (2014) - the Netherlands’ official submission to the Oscars - portray the human toll suffered by migrants on Europe’s margins. Shot and directed by Morgan himself, the films won over 30 international awards, including the Silver Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival and two Dutch Academy Awards - including Best Feature-Length Documentary - and received nominations at the European Film Awards and IDFA.
His documentary The Atomic Soldiers (2018), in which aging American veterans confront the haunting legacy of nuclear weapons testing, was published by The New York Times and The Atlantic. It went on to win another Dutch Academy Award for Best Documentary and the Dutch Directors Guild Grand Prize. His VICE documentary What Does a Nuclear Bomb Explosion Feel Like? (2018) resonated globally, reaching more than 160 million viewers online.
Morgan also directed five segments for Netflix’s Human Playground (2022), narrated by Idris Elba, which explores the evolution of why people play and was filmed across 25 countries worldwide.
