Biography

Elton de Almeida

Biography

  • A queer Afro-Latino writer based in Los Angeles, Elton first discovered the visceral power of storytelling as an outcast kid in rural Brazil in the ’90s. From shooting horror shorts on a camcorder his mother won in a raffle to writing professionally for film and television, his work centers on character-driven genre stories that explore identity, desire, politics, and the cost of being seen.

A Fulbright Scholar and AFI alum, Elton works primarily in horror, thriller, mystery, and sci-fi--stories in which outsiders confront both internal and external monsters. His professional experience includes developing and writing for Netflix Brazil, Prime Video Brazil, and Globoplay. He was a staff writer on Lov3 (Prime Video)--honored by the Brazilian Writers Association for "Best Comedy Writing"--and on Hold That Pose (Globoplay), a docudrama spotlighting Rio’s LGBTQ ballroom scene.

Elton has developed projects with Anonymous Content Brazil, including a Starz-optioned novel adaptation, and with RT Features (I’m Still Here, The Lighthouse). He is currently adapting acclaimed Brazilian literary works such as The Dark Side of Skin and Listen, Beautiful Marcia. He also wrote an original holiday special that aired on Brazil’s largest broadcast network and has received multiple grants to develop original film and television projects. He currently works as a Development Consultant for Netflix Brazil.
