Biography

Paul Phillips

Biography

  • Paul Phillips was born in Brunswick, GA on June 26th, 1975. He lived there until age 11, at which point he moved to Jacksonville Beach, FL, and immediately became immersed in the local surf/skate scene. An avid competitor, he did very well in local contests, but it wasn't long before the music bug hit. Inspired by bands like Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Pantera, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains, Paul picked up the guitar at age 15 and started his first band when he was 17. In late '99, he moved to LA and was introduced to Wes Scantlin. He joined Puddle of Mudd shortly after this introduction. Puddle of Mudd released their first record, Come Clean, in 2001 and followed it up with Life On Display in 2003. Tensions and musical differences caused him to leave in 2005, at which time he recorded and toured with a band called Operator. Operator released one record entitled Soul Crusher. February of '09 marked Paul's return to the Puddle fold and two more records followed. However, in October of 2011, he decided he needed a break from the road. In early 2012, Paul was offered the opportunity to write original music for and score the upcoming Nitro Circus 3D movie. He collaborated with Damien Starkey and together, they completed the project in June. Paul is hoping to continue on that route and is also venturing into acting. His first role will be the 386 Films short titled "The Guy Knows Everything."
