Svetlana Sigalaeva was born in Moscow, Russia. She is an award-winning film director, screenwriter, and producer with international experience and is now a UK-based filmmaker. A graduate of the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) and Nikita Mikhalkov’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, she is the author of over 13 short films that have been screened and awarded at more than 70 festivals across 16 countries, including Kinotavr, Raindance, Stockholm Film & Television Festival, Oslo/Fusion, and Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
Her work has received multiple honors, including Best Debut, Best Feature Film, Independent Film Festival Grand Prix, and three Golden Eagle Award long-list nominations. Due to political censorship, several of her feature projects were halted or banned in Russia, leading her to continue developing films internationally and to relocate to the UK.
In 2024-2025, her films were showcased at sold-out screenings at Riverside Studios in London. Alongside her fiction work, she has directed award-winning television documentaries, including Moscow from a Point of View (TEFI-Region Award winner).
She is the CEO, founder and director of the UK-based Light42Danko Ltd.
