- Nancy Pop is an award-winning actress, director, and producer based in New York, creating bold, character-driven work across film, theater, emerging media, and voiceover. With over a decade of experience as both a performer and filmmaker, she brings a distinctive perspective to storytelling - one that blends humor, vulnerability, grit, and a touch of the surreal.
Originally from Romania and raised in Pennsylvania and Arkansas, Nancy earned her BA in Theatre Performance and Playwriting from Marymount Manhattan College. Her background as an actor and theater artist remains central to her work behind the camera, informing her collaborative approach and deep connection to performance, character, and the human contradictions that make stories worth telling.
She made her feature directorial debut with Poets Are The Destroyers, which won Best Feature at the 2022 QueerX Film Festival and is streaming on RevryTV. Her recent directorial work includes vertical micro dramas for DramaBox, SaltyTV, and Interactive Films - an increasingly prolific corner of her career she has affectionately dubbed Spielbertical - as well as three upcoming vertical microdramas created in collaboration with Dhar Mann Studios and Fox Entertainment, scheduled for release in November 2026.
A member of New York’s BAMF Filmshop chapter, Nancy is writing her first feature-length screenplay, Cowboy Dracula, a Balkan road-trip comedy set on Christmas Eve. She is starring in Michael Goldburg’s upcoming short film Start Anywhere as Emilia, a Romanian-born aspiring writer whose perceptive, unconventional outlook challenges a burned-out professor to reconsider the creative ambitions he has all but abandoned. She is also in pre-production on Rabbit Hole, a surreal Halloween-night descent through New York City, in which she stars as Zoey, the glamorous and emotionally volatile young woman whose disappearance sends her two friends spiraling through the city’s bars, streets, and sketchy after-parties.
She is the co-host of Artists & Beers, a Brooklyn-based monthly film festival and creative community spotlighting independent filmmakers. Across every medium, Nancy is drawn to stories that are raw, darkly funny, emotionally grounded, and deeply human. In her free time, she enjoys jogging in cemeteries, hosting dinner parties, and learning how to ride motorcycles.
