As a youth she was involved in church youth and disability work as well as extra-parliamentary activities. In 1994 she joined the PDS, after which she continued her extra-parliamentary activities with a focus on anti-nuclear, anti-militarism and anti-fascism. 1995 to 1998 member of the district executive of the PDS Hanover, 1995 to 1996 of the federal party council, 1997 to 2000, autumn 2002 to summer 2003 and since November 2004 member of the party executive, since 1998 state chairwoman of the PDS Lower Saxony, February 2003 to September 2005 member of the spokesman's council of the Gera dialogue in the PDS.
