Mike has been a cinematographer since the age of 7, when he stole his
father's Sony Hi8 camcorder to make an homage to Back To The Future
using a Little Tykes Cozy Coupe fitted with wiring from his parent's
garage. Ever since then he has been interested in film making. His
professional career started while making short films for educational
purposes, recording coursework for online distribution at San Diego
State University.
Mike's creative cinematic career culminated in his continuous work on the 48 Hour Film Project in San Diego, starting in the year 2009. Using Canon's Pro-Series DSLRs as tools to create artistic films, he has been part of several production teams striving to squeeze a great deal of digital cinema power out of what was originally intended to be a still photo camera. Using specialized tools as well as custom made rigs, the teams he has worked with have been one of several pioneers in the world of DSLR cinematography.
Mike's future goals include making longer length films and spending more time in the creative process, as he has additionally been part of both writing and editing teams and has wanted to hone this set of skills. In a recent interview, Mike said that he felt that these were skills in which he felt were in need of constant development in order to excel, and he was adamant about focusing on building up his skills to encompass the entire production process.
