Biography

  • Lex Ortega is a Mexican filmmaker, screenwriter, sound designer, and toy maker. He graduated in Sound Engineering from the Trebas Institute in Montreal, Canada, and later studied Filmmaking at UNAM in Mexico City.

Known for his uncompromising vision and extreme horror aesthetics, Lex has established himself as a leading voice in Latin American genre cinema. His debut feature, Atroz (Atrocious), was hailed as "the most violent film in the history of Mexican cinema" and became a cult sensation around the world.

His other notable works include his segments and creation of the influential horror anthology franchise México Bárbaro, the intense home invasion film Animales Humanos, and his eerie contribution to the rebooted series La Hora Marcada - a show that once helped launch the careers of Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón.

In 2025, Lex broke new ground with Muertamorfosis, the first Mexican horror film created using artificial intelligence, positioning himself at the forefront of experimental and tech-driven storytelling in cinema.

Over the years, he has also directed numerous short films and medium-length works, further showcasing his versatility and relentless drive to explore the darkest corners of human fear.

Lex Ortega continues to push creative and technological boundaries in horror and extreme cinema, combining raw, immersive sound design with brutal visual storytelling.
