Biography

Volkmar Leif Gilbert (*1991 in Königs Wusterhausen, Germany as Volkmar Welzel) grew up in a small town close to Berlin and has always been interested in the arts, mostly singing, playing instruments and being on stage in school productions. He started his professional acting career during his education at Schauspielschule Charlottenburg in Berlin. In 2011, Volkmar played his first role in Kai Stänickes short "It's consuming me", which premiered in San Francisco and won several prices at different short film festivals around the world. After finishing acting school in 2012, Volkmar started playing in children's theatre productions in Berlin and shooting short films ("Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog in 60 seconds", "Serefe"). In the years 2013-2018 Volkmar was starring in several stage productions, mostly including musical parts to feature his singing passion, such as "Frühlings Erwachen" (Schauspielbühnen Stuttgart), "Harold & Maude" (Theatersommer Ludwigsburg), "Cabaret" (Kammertheater Karlsruhe) and "Die Fete endet nie" (Boulevardtheater Dresden) - last one has been successfully running since 2016. In 2019, the young actor could be seen in the German soap opera "Rote Rosen" (ARD) as Laurenz Merz. More musical productions and engagements in Dresden followed. In 2021, Volkmar started leading his own theatre group in Berlin and directed his first stage productions. He also engaged in dubbing since 2017, having had the leading roles in the German versions of "I lost my body" (Netflix), "Words bubble up like soda pop" (Netflix) and "Richard the Stork 2" (2023, Wildbunch). Volkmars multiple interests and talents show in his jobs as writer, director, teacher and member of BFFS.
