Biography

  • Cullen Severance is a comedy writer/director/actor/producer/editor/content creator. He mainly specializes in parody, slapstick and satire. Severance was born in Dillon, Montana in the early 1990s to two former teachers who lived on a ranch in the Waterloo Valley of Montana in the 1990s and 2000s. He attended school at the Whitehall School District where his mother worked as an elementary school teacher throughout his childhood and graduated with a High School Diploma in 2010. Severance enjoyed a normal childhood playing on his parents' ranch, riding horses, playing in the snow, going swimming, horseback riding, hiking, camping, boating, picnicking, climbing trees and hills, visiting or being visited by relatives and his family's friends, playing with toys, playing with animals, traveling and vacationing, but he always had a creative eye since he was a baby while being obsessed with cartoons, animation, books, movies, photographs, television, music, video/computer games, the stars of the 90s and early 2000s, and later the internet. By the time he was a preteen he discovered an extreme love for comedy after his brother's friends introduced him to the Three Stooges and he went down a life changing rabbit hole of studying classic comedy from the silent era, to the Golden Age, to the R-rated classics of the 70s and early 80s. He then became a die hard fan of parody movies featuring Leslie Nielsen, Mel Brooks and Monty Python. He would entertain his family and classmates by making them laugh with live reenactments of performances he liked, sharing ideas for gags, and cartoons he drew. It wasn't until his father convinced him to pursue directing at 13 that he decided to take live action parodies seriously and become a comedy triple-threat at a young age hoping to make live action parodies for this generation. He's stated that he's always wanted to be like Jim Varney, Jim Carrey, Moe Howard, Stan Laurel, Charlie Chaplin, Leslie Nielsen, Mel Brooks, and David Zucker since he was a kid. Severance was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at 3 years old, but this was changed to Autism and ADHD by another therapist when he turned 30. This heavily affected his thinking, attention, energy, communication, mood, emotions and confidence throughout his life, so he struggled with school, learning, teasing, bullying, criticism, advice, conflicts with his family, work & financial issues, and finding romance throughout his young adult life. Throughout High School he would go all around Montana competing with fellow schoolmates in Speech/Debate/Drama, performing in High School plays, and singing in Choir. He was awarded the Whitehall High School Chet Huntley Award for his involvement doing Speech, Drama and Theater upon graduation. When YouTube was released in the mid 2000s, and numerous comedy channels hosted by young creatives like him went viral, Severance realized that the popular website would be a potential venue to get his start in live-action comedy on his own at a young age and showcase his skills writing, performing and directing short comedy video skits and parodies not only to build a portfolio, but in hopes of getting discovered by Hollywood to make parody movies. Right after graduating high school, he got accepted and attended Montana State University to take film classes, but he currently does not have a degree. Since his discovery of YouTube, Severance decided to launch his own YouTube comedy channel once he started as a university student, hoping to build an entourage to go to Hollywood the summer after freshman year to attempt to sell a screenplay he wrote to a major Hollywood studio, and work on the film as a summer gig. Unfortunately this plan never came to fruition as he didn't have the money to afford the trip and he was forced to stay with his family in Bozeman, Montana for years struggling to find work locally to save up for not only a potential trip to Los Angeles, but hopefully move. Problems also arose as his YouTube channel never took off and went long unnoticed due to Severance struggling to find effective ways to market his work virally, and YouTube's algorithm changes. However, he was still persistent in getting noticed as a potential young movie parodist, so he kept putting out whatever video content either he or other people online would find funny as often as he could, often relying on income from whatever day job he had to fund his own projects. He also struggled his entire 20s trying to get his favorite comedy directors' attention to read his parody screenplays and hopefully turn them into major theatrical productions and releases.

Severance finally moved to Southern California in 2022, and is now living in San Fernando Valley working on other live-action projects....

...There's no ending to this story.
