Michael League is known for Snarky Puppy & Metropole Orkest: Sylva (2015), Snarky Puppy: groundUP (2012) and Snarky Puppy: We Like It Here (2014).

Snarky Puppy is part of a world where maybe improvisation isn't a huge emphasis. People tend to be surprised when we do workshops and we constantly say, 'Serve the song, serve the song'. They say 'We thought you just messing around'.I think of us as pop guys rather than jazz guys.

I'm definitely an improviser and I'm in love with improvising. But if I have to choose between watching a gig that's completely improvised or a gig with zero improvisation, I'll go with zero improvisation. From the earliest age I think I've always been very interested in composition.
