"An elementary school in Laguna Niguel was named for Bergeson. The aquatics center at Corona del Mar High School is also named for her," the Los Angeles Times wrote.

She was "the first woman to serve both in the (California) state Senate and Assembly," the Los Angeles Times explained.

During her extensive California political career, Bergeson held the following positions at various times: Orange County Board of Supervisors, State Secretary of Education, California State Assembly, California State Senate, Newport Beach School Board Member, President of California School Boards Association.
