Biography

Morteza Jafari is a filmmaker and former journalist originally from Tehran. He worked for 12 years as a television journalist in Iran, covering major conflicts as a war correspondent, including the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan in 2001, the U.S. invasion of Iraq from 2003 to 2005, and Israel's military operations in Lebanon in 2006. Alongside his journalism career, he studied at the School of Dramatic Arts in Tehran and became actively involved in documentary filmmaking. To date, he has directed 38 short and feature-length documentaries as well as three feature films. Since 2012, he has been directing documentaries in Thessaloniki, including West Dream (2012), Dreaming of Democracy (2014), Oneiro zois (2016), and ISIS Bride (2017), the latter of which was screened at the 58th Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
