Biography

Martin Zied

Biography

  • Martin Zied has produced, written, and directed independent films, documentaries, news magazine specials, TV episodes, and commercials for over 30 years. He is a six-time Emmy Award winner. His work includes production credits for ABC, CBS, NBC, A&E, The Learning Channel and PBS for shows such as 20/20, MSNBC Investigates, 48 Hours Mystery, and Biography. He has also written articles for SportsIllustrated.com.

His independent filmmaking career includes writing, producing, and directing the film "Minor Leagues, Major Dreams", directing "A Decade of Solas" and consulting on the Vietnam War documentary, "A Painful Reconciliation".

He has produced documentaries and news specials for some of the biggest events over the past three decades. In 2002, he co-produced a story on the history and patterns of terrorism that included never before seen footage of the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993 and a rare one-on-one interview with Osama Bin Laden, conducted in Pakistan by "20/20" co-host, John Miller. Shortly after the Virginia Tech tragedy he helped produce the news special "Anatomy of a Rampage" for CBS 48 Hours Mystery.

Other notable projects include "Attack on America, A Doctor's Story" shot during the tragedy of 9/11 entirely by a doctor who was on the scene as the events unfolded in real time. The special won industry praise and numerous awards. While working on the MSNBC Special "A Different Drum" he led the first ever camera crew into the Burning Man Festival in the Nevada Desert and to "The Farm," a hippie commune founded by San Francisco guru, Steven Gaskins, in the hills of Tennessee.

Zied also serves as Senior Producer for the Paul F. Harron studios at Drexel University in Philadelphia where his class in television production won a regional Emmy Award (2012) and has won 3 Telly Awards (2010, 2011, 2012).
