Steve Deery

Stephen Joseph Deery is a British screenwriter, producer, and occasional actor, born in Rugby, Warwickshire. With a career spanning decades and a passion for storytelling his work has earned multiple awards and international recognition. Deery's writing journey began at the age of fourteen, when his first piece was published in a national sports paper - an early sign of the creative drive that would define his career. In 2011, he shifted focus to screenwriting and producing short-form content, quickly establishing himself as a distinctive voice in independent film. Today, his passion lies in crafting original features and serialised dramas for Colombian television. He is a founding member of The Coders Room, a boundary-pushing, multi-award-winning collective of screenwriters. In just two years, the group has created over 20 acclaimed short films and digital mini-series, blending inventive storytelling with bold visual style. In 2021, Deery co-founded the Decentraland Film Festival-the world's first fully operational virtual cinema. This groundbreaking venture allows filmmakers from across the globe to participate in film festivals inside a virtual world, overcoming traditional barriers of geography and finance. Stephen lives in the UK with his wife, Lynn May, whom he married in 2006. He is the proud father of two children, Imogene and Laurence.
