Tim Horsburgh is Vice President, National Geographic Documentary Films. An experienced executive dedicated to the development, production, marketing, and distribution of documentary films, over the last decade projects that he has been involved with have been nominated for six Academy Awards (including three years in a row 2023-2025), watched by millions of viewers, and inspired meaningful political, social, and cultural impact.
With Nat Geo, his work includes Academy Award nominees Sugarcane; Bob Wine: The People's President; and Fire of Love, and Emmy-award winners including The Territory, The Rescue, The Flagmakers, and The First Wave, among others. He previously worked at Kartemquin Films, during a period in which the organization received three Oscar nominations and won five Emmys and two Peabody Awards. His experience covers over 100 films, series, and shorts, as well as the development and management of several not-for-profit filmmaker development programs; founding and leading successful advocacy movements on behalf of the independent documentary media field; and teaching and consulting on audience engagement and impact campaign strategies.
He was born in India, grew up in England, and currently lives in Santa Monica.
