Biography

Milad Tangshir is an Iranian-born filmmaker and former musician. Born in Tehran, he began his artistic career as a member of the Iranian rock band Ahoora, with whom he released three albums during the 2000s. In 2011, Tangshir relocated to Italy to pursue cinema studies at the University of Turin. His early short films, such as Displaced (2016), which explores the Balkan immigration route, and 13 Seconds (2018), a reflection on the aftermath of an Iranian earthquake, were screened and awarded at various international festivals.

His virtual reality short VR Free (2019), filmed inside a Turin prison, was selected for competition at both the 76th Venice Film Festival and the 42nd Sundance Film Festival. That same year, his documentary Star Stuff-shot in Chile, South Africa, and the Canary Islands-premiered at the 37th Torino Film Festival.

Tangshir made his narrative feature debut with Anywhere Anytime (2024), which was selected for the Critics' Week at the 81st Venice Film Festival and the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival.
