Biography

Alecs Nastoiu is a Romanian writer-director, founder of the creative filmmaking laboratory Alegrias.Lab, where he develops independent films through experimentation, collaboration, and accessible filmmaking tools. A graduate of the directing department at the National University of Theatre and Film I.L. Caragiale - Bucharest, Romania, he began his journey exploring writing, directing and editing, shaping a hands-on approach that continues to define his work.

Alecs is interested in intimate filmmaking methods that blur the line between traditional cinema, interactive storytelling, and new digital forms. His recent work explores themes such as identity, digital alienation, privacy, mental health, invisible systems of control, and the emotional impact of technology on human relationships.

In 2016, he made his feature directorial debut with Billion Star Hotel, followed by projects including The Girl Who Is Selling Fish, The Secret of Pin-Up Island, and Seven Days and a Coke.

Through Alegrias.Lab, Alecs continues to develop films, hybrid formats, and collaborative projects that embrace minimal resources, unconventional structures, and new ways of experiencing stories.
