Born in Washington, D.C., into an immigrant family from Guyana, South America, Patrick Taylor began playing his first instrument - the piano- at the age of five. As he gained more exposure to different instruments it became hard for him to play just one; he quickly added the trumpet, xylophone, and timpani to his repertoire. His classical training ranged stylistically from jazz to classical, rock, and R&B. During college he developed a passion for musical genre blending, forming progressive instrumental band Caverns. The music blended progressive rock riffs with classical piano lines to form a highly aggressive yet cinematic sound. The group would become a national touring act that would always leave crowds with one response - "this music should be in a movie!" - peaking the interest into film for the young performer.

To get his first film composition opportunity Patrick decided to take a roundabout route. He created his own film company, D dot Films, to network with other like-minded directors. Patrick excelled early at directing and editing and quickly joined very creative circles in Washington's small but aggressive independent film scene. Despite his directorial and editorial success, Patrick's first love remained heightening the emotional quality of film through music. As a co-director, Patrick collaborated with Writer/ Director Cutter Hodierne on various short film and commercial projects but their relationship really took off when he lobbied to work musically for the talented director. The effort paid off in 2012 when Patrick scored the Sundance Award winning short "Fishing without Nets". Patrick would eventually score the feature film under the same name that premiered at Sundance, winning the prestigious director award. Recently, Patrick has been working with other up and coming directors looking to grow his body of work and push him creatively.

Patrick was an undergraduate at Tufts University, where he minored in music composition. After college he attended the Omega School for the Recording Arts where he studied MIDI and became Pro Tools certified. During his time at Omega, Bryan Elsom, a former session musician and current creative director for MRB Films, mentored him creatively. It was he who gave Patrick the most insight into what it took to be a professional musician, and seeing talent in the young musician, Patrick earned opportunities to create music for national commercial campaigns and creative art house projects.
