Biography

Nathan Deal is the 82nd governor of Georgia. He grew up on a farm, raised prize-winning hogs, and became student body president and a debate champion. Deal also served as captain in the U.S. Army, a state senator and a member of Congress. While in Mercer law school, Deal went on a blind date with Sandra Dunagan. Things went well, and 47 years later, they have four children and six grandchildren.

Sandra and Nathan met on a blind date at First Baptist Church in Sandersville, Ga., where Nathan sang in the choir. Sandra was impressed by his voice, and after choir rehearsal, they headed to the local drive-in for a Coke. The two talked for hours, and the next day, Sandra told her parents she'd met the man she was going to marry.

Deal's favorite TV show is the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers.

We all figured in, oh, the 5th or 6th grade that Nathan was going to be governor. He was just that way, the class leader with the good grades. It's like it was in his DNA.
