Biography

Darren Tate is a classically trained composer and record producer born in London, England. Fluent in piano, clarinet and guitar, he later studied advanced orchestration and composition under leading British composer Phillip Venables.

Tate spent many years working in music theatre before his first major success came with the dance act "Angelic" in 2000 with BBC Radio 1 DJ Judge Jules. Since then he has written and produced over a dozen top forty singles in the UK alone and worked with many leading international writer and artists from around the world, including Charlotte Church, Boy George, George Michael, Mory Kante, Roxanne Wilde, Lisa Scott Lee, Estelle, Shena Mc Swee, Kate Ryan, Above & Beyond, Leee John (Imagination), Kenny Thomas, Pippa Fulton, Ayumi Hamasaki, Andrea Britton, Victoria Horn, Rob Davis and many others. Tate has personally recorded under the names "Angelic", "Jurgen Vries", "Funkysober", "DT8 Project", "Citizen Caned", "Orion", "8 Ball" and "Tate & Diamond". In addition he has recorded, orchestrated and written classical works including the IBLA Award Winning "Dark Skies" performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra.

In 2010, Tate joined established composer Kenneth Lampl to form the film composition team "Tate & Lampl" (aka Brainstorm). Since then the two composers have collaborated on a wide range of projects including "Frontera" (Dir. Michael Berry; starring Ed Harris, Eva Longoria, Michael Pena), "The Under Shepherd" (Dir. Russ Parr; starring Isaiah Washington, Keith David, Louis Gossett Jr.), "Awakened" (Dir. Jocelyn Engle, Arno Maralone; starring John Savage, Steven Bauer), "Scavenger Killers" (Dir. Dylan Bank; starring Eric Roberts, Charles Durning, Robert Logia), "Sid's Paralysis" (Dir. Babar Ahmed) and Gary King's multi-award winning "How Do You Writer A Joe Schermann Song". Tate's music has appeared in British and American network television programs including Darren Star's "The Streets" and "Eastenders" on the BBC. In addition his music has also featured in worldwide advertising campaigns for TDK and MTV and has appeared in leading software titles such as Electronic Arts "FIFA World Cup" series and for Sony's Playstation Eye.
