Chelsea E. Manning is a network security and artificial intelligence expert, and activist. She is a former U.S. soldier and former prisoner, who ran for the U.S. Senate, in the State of Maryland, in 2018.

Following nearly seven years in custody as the longest serving whistle-blower in U.S. history, Chelsea Manning was released from the United States Disciplinary Barracks at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas early in the morning on 17 May 2017 after President Obama commuted her 35 year sentence.

Following conviction and sentencing in whistleblowing trial, Bradley Manning announced through a letter and her attorney that she is transitioning to female with the name Chelsea.

On 17 January 2017, President Obama commuted the majority of her 35 year sentence, with her release scheduled for 17 May 2017.
