Biography

Anthony Vander is British film director, producer and actor. Anthony made his first television appearance at age seventeen as himself in BBC's Bitesize program. Anthony then studied Sociology and Communications at Goldsmiths, University of London whilst attending The National Youth Theatre where he honed his acting skills. In 2006 Anthony was accepted into the prestigious Drama Centre London and in 2009 he graduated with a BA Hons in Acting.

His first professional stage appearance was at the Southwark Playhouse in Sense followed by Helen at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in 2009. Also among other parts Anthony was directed by CBE Philip Hedley in a staged reading at the Soho Theatre. In October 2009 Anthony wrote and appeared in his debut play Inhibitions.

As a writer his debut play Inhibitions was given a rehearsed reading at The Soho Theatre by The National Youth Theatre in September 2009. His second play Studio 66 was also performed to sell audiences at the historic Roundhouse. Anthony has acted in numerous films including Ealing Studios The Grandfather Paradox (2013) and also Fresh to Death (2011) which he also co-produced with his production company Distortion Entertanment. In 2012 his debut short film Hooligan (2012) (2012) which he wrote and directed was selected for The Short Film Corner at Cannes Film Festival. 2014 saw the release of his debut feature film Sweetboy (2014) which he directed, produced and acted in. Sweetboy (2014) had its World premiere at The American Black Film Festival.In February 2017. Anthony produced and starred in the crowdfunded feature film Scales (2020) (2019) which won him best supporting actor at The Los Angeles Film Awards 2018.

Anthony wrote and directed Spar (2021) (2019) a coming of age short about competition and overcoming adversity. In early 2020 Anthony directed his third short film Fading (2020) (2020) a female led drama about a young woman's battle to overcome a brutal attack; as her attacker seeks a path to redemption.

Anthony was also one of four filmmakers featured in We Are Parable and BFI 'Who We are' season in July 2020, which shined a light at Black British filmmakers in the UK. Anthony has two projects in development , his second feature film The Tutor and also a television film 'Amateur; which is based around a boxing gym in London.

His fifth short film, Finale, was selected for the BAFTA-qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival in 2021. Anthony became a full member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in 2023 in recognition of his impact on the film industry.

In 2025, Vander was appointed Festival Director of the Collective Film Festival London, an event dedicated to supporting underrepresented filmmakers seeking entry into the industry.

Anthony released the television pilot Spar in 2025.
