  • Asmit is a filmmaker and a theatre-maker traversing both the realms in various capacities.

    FILMMAKER

    His latest short film TWO WAY STREET qualified for the Academy Awards® 2024. It won the V. Shantaram Golden Award for Best Direction at the South Asian Short Film Festival along with many other international selections and awards.

    His other short film ESCORT won the Best Screenplay at Venice Shorts, LA.

    ACTOR

    As an actor, his latest work is Karan Gour's FAIRY FOLK which has travelled to Sydney, Melbourne and Chicago Film Festivals. It was screened at MAMI 2024 and ran in select theaters in India for two weeks.

    He continues to act in theatre across productions in Mumbai and New Delhi, namely Black Box Okhla’s HARVEST and Afsana Theatre’s KUTTA AURAT AADMI.

    LIGHT DESIGNER

    Asmit has been designing lighting for theatre productions in English, Hindi and Gujarati for the past 16 years.

    In 2017, he won the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Award (META) for Best Light Design for the play ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM.

    PLAYWRIGHT & THEATREMAKER

    As a playwright and director, his first play US & THEM was a metaphorical representation of the Kashmir conflict using magic tricks to tell the story.

    His second directorial BANG BANG BAINGANI was a musical based on the life of Sampat Pal, the fiery leader of Pink Saree Gang- a women vigilante group in Bundelkhand. This play was written by Purva Naresh.

    PRODUCER

    Asmit has recently Creative Produced an Indian Broadway adaptation of Fyodor Dostoevsky's White Nights as CHANDNI RAATEIN for AADYAM THEATRE.

    The play has been written and directed by Purva Naresh and won the Best Music & Sound Design Award at the MAHINDRA EXCELLENCE IN THEATRE AWARDS (META) 2026.
