Before graduating from Media Production at Assiniboine Community
College in Brandon, Riddell was hired by CTV as a VTR (video tape
recorder) operator. Over the next few years he made his way from the
studio to the field as a video journalist and a writer/director for the
series Manitoba Moments. His show 'My Sister Jo' was picked up
nationally.
Since going freelance in 2007, Riddell has continued to write and direct a number of documentaries and short films including 'As Close as Brothers'; a World War II documentary about Winnipeg hero and Victoria Cross recipient Andrew Mynarski which was picked up for distribution in Europe and 'In Search of the Storm' which premiered at IMAX in Winnipeg.
In 2012, Riddell's script 'The Last Five Minutes of Ina Konstantinova' was a finalist in the $10,000 RBC Emerging Filmmaker competition held in Gimli, Manitoba.
