Streaming Stars, Then and Now

Hannah Dominique E. John-Kamen is a British actress. She is known for her roles as Dutch in the Syfy television series Killjoys, Ornela in the HBO series Game of Thrones, F'Nale Zandor in Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, and Ghost in Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Hannah was born in Beverley, Yorkshire, England, the youngest of three children of a Nigerian forensic psychologist father and a Norwegian fashion model mother. She attended primary school in Kirk Ella and received her secondary education at Hull Collegiate School, and also trained at the National Youth Theatre in London. In 2012, she graduated from the Central School of Speech and Drama.

John-Kamen began her professional career in 2011 when she provided her voice for the video game Dark Souls. She then went on to make episode appearances in television series Misfits (2011), Black Mirror (2011), Whitechapel (2012), The Syndicate (2012), The Midnight Beast (2012) and The Hour (2012).

In 2012, John-Kamen landed the lead role of Viva in Viva Forever, a West End musical based on the songs of the Spice Girls. Written by Jennifer Saunders and produced by Judy Craymer, Viva Forever premiered on 11 December 2012 at the Piccadilly Theatre to largely negative reviews. The Daily Mirror, however, praised John-Kamen's performance, noting, "It's a shame a talented cast, especially Hannah John-Kamen's Viva and the rest of Eternity, are let down by a clichéd plot and leaden dialogue." The show was eventually closed on 29 June 2013.

2015 saw John-Kamen land a starring role in SyFy's Killjoys. In 2016 John-Kamen had a guest starring role on HBO's Game of Thrones. In 2016, she appeared in "Playtest", an episode of the anthology series Black Mirror. She also appeared in Season two of the UK series The Tunnel, and played Ghost in the superhero film Ant-Man and the Wasp.

On John-Kamen's role in Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, Kristen Tauer wrote: "While much of "Ready Player One" takes place in a virtual reality world, John-Kamen's character is unique in that she is rooted in the reality throughout the film."

Stunts are my favourite - I love it: the feeling, the adrenaline when all the cameras are rolling and everyone is watching and crowd round.

My parents are so supportive of whatever we want to do and completely nurtured that, and they&#39;re so proud of that as well. My sister&#39;s a doctor, and I have an older brother as well. He went into the music industry; he&#39;s very musically talented.

I think it&#39;s great that you have inspirational female roles, that it&#39;s not just the pretty girl on the arm of a man.

I love fantasy; I love imagination - that&#39;s the inner child in me.

My dad left his psychology hat at the door and put his dad hat on when he came into the house. It&#39;s amazing having my dad have that awesome job. My mother was a model back in the day. I&#39;ve seen the pictures. My mother&#39;s beautiful.

The idea of science fiction, mythology, and creating a world is my favourite thing. I do love the reality of dramas and playing that, but being able to start from scratch, to completely build the character and this world, I love that.

I&#39;ve always known I was going to perform and live in London.

Sci-fi fans are so interested in your character and so attached to the world that you&#39;ve created.

I remember the first &#39;fan expo&#39; we did for &#39;Killjoys,&#39; we were so new, there wasn&#39;t a lot of information out yet. But there were so many fans so excited already. And they were asking really intellectual questions about the show.

I have an older brother and sister, and I&#39;m definitely ahead of my years in terms of sci-fi and films. My brother is a massive sci-fi fan, and the Linda Hamilton and Sigourney Weaver era... I was involved and interested.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do since I could remember. As a kid, if my friends came round after school for dinner, I&#39;d put on shows; I&#39;d write plays and charge the parents £1.50 for a ticket for sweetie money.

Growing up with strong female role models is always inspiring, and growing up, that was something I aspired to play.

I remember, for my birthday once, we all dressed up as Spice Girls. I was Scary.

I&#39;m not sure why it&#39;s taken so long, but I think people are relating to strong female leads.
