Biography

Maria Isabel de la Ossa

Mini bio

  • Born in Panama to a very multicultural and artistically frustrated family, Maria studied filmmaking in the U.S. (University of Florida, UCLA), and then in Australia (Charles Darwin University, AFTRS), where she built her career in-between life and motherhood over the past 20 years. A live sport TV director at Sky Racing World, she has additionally directed 12 narrative and documentary shorts, including her most recent, "All That You Love WIll Be Carried Away", based on the Stephen King story of the same name, and world premiering next month at the prestigious St. Kilda Film Festival. She is a recipient of the 2023 Blackmagic Emerging Directors Fellowship and was recently selected to direct a new work for Well, Actually Productions. A member of the ADG and ACS, she is also a talented cinematographer, has worked in the camera department and/or DPed for several high profile screen productions, and is a recipient of the Panavision Australia 1st AC Fellowship. "Carmen & Bolude" marks her debut feature as a director, on her way to her ultimate goal of being nominated for an Oscar.
