Biography

Stefan Langthaler was born in Vienna, Austria. From 2008 to 2013, he studied screenwriting and directing at the Filmcollege Wien.

His medium-length film "Fabiu" was invited to many of the world’s most prestigious film festivals, won numerous awards, and received a Special Mention at the Festival du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand in 2021.

His short films "Fabiu", "Boom and Bloom" and "Nightfaces" have been screened at 200 festivals worldwide (Palm Springs ShortFest, HollyShorts, Frameline, Camerimage, Cleveland Int. Film Festival, Huesca, Bogoshorts, Max Ophüls, Tirana, Norwegian Short Film Festival, Out on Film Atlanta, Flickers’ Rhode Island, etc.) and have won more than 70 awards.

Most recently, he co-directed the short film "Nightfaces" with Martin Winter. The film had its world premiere in the competition section of the 34th Bamberg Short Film Festival and its international premiere at the 40th European Film Festival of Lille. Among other accolades, it won the Best Short Film award at the 20th Lucca Film Festival, Best in Festival at the BIFA-qualifying 12th Beeston Film Festival, Best Director at the 53rd Festival de Cine de Cartagena, and qualified for the 2027 Oscars by winning the Narrative Short Jury Award at the 17th Santa Fe International Film Festival. To date, "Nightfaces" has been invited to more than 60 festivals and has won 28 awards.
