Kip Williams
Kip Williams is an Australia director known for innovative stage adaptations of classic texts. He is a graduate of both the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and the University of Sydney, where he was later awarded the Alumni Award for Cultural Contribution.
Williams made his main stage directorial debut in 2012 at the Sydney Opera House with Sydney Theatre Company for Under Milk Wood with Jack Thompson. He has since directed more than two dozen productions for the company.
At the age of 30, Williams was appointed Sydney Theatre Company's seventh Artistic Director and Co-CEO, becoming the youngest person to hold the role in the company's history.
He is widely known for his adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, which premiered at Sydney Theatre Company in 2020 before transferring to the West End in 2024 and Broadway in 2025. The two latter runs starred Sarah Snook, who won both an Olivier Award and a Tony Award for her performance. Williams received a Tony Award nomination for Best Direction of a Play, with the production earning five additional nominations.
Most recently, Williams directed his adaptation of The Maids at the Donmar Warehouse in London. His adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula is playing on the West End, starring Oscar-nominated Cynthia Erivo in all 23 roles.
