- In October 2023, Niraj Kumar Mishra was honored with the 69th National Film Award for "Best Feature Film-Maithili" for his debut feature film, "Samanantar" (The Parallel), which he wrote, directed, and produced.
An entertainment media professional with over two decades of experience across various verticals and genres in television, web content, and film, he has worked on numerous high-profile shows for top television networks. His notable projects include the iconic quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (Season 1 - Format Who Wants To Be A Millionaire) and Mastermind India (Season 4), as well as launching the Guinness World Record-holding sitcom Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and creating the popular courtroom drama Adaalat. Before transitioning from television to film, he produced many chart-topping television shows for leading entertainment channels, totaling over 2,000 episodes across 25 different series.
In 2018, he made his debut as a writer with the commercial entertainer Baaghi 2, marking his first film as a screenwriter. It became the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year, earning approximately INR 255 crore.
He has also written and directed award-winning short films, most notably the 2012 period fiction Gandhi: The Silent Gun. The film explores the ideological clash between Gandhi and his assassin Godse.
He has played a key role as both Story Writer and Showrunner on several acclaimed web series for prominent OTT platforms such as Zee5 and VOOT.
Earlier, he closely worked for two years (2002-2004) with legendary musician and sitarist Late Bharat Ratna Pt. Ravi Shankar for his music and performing arts institute in New Delhi.
Niraj is presently engaged in the writing and direction of several forthcoming Hindi and regional feature films.
Recently, he has been conferred the esteemed position of distinguished panel member on the Preview Committee for the International Cinema sections at the illustrious 55th edition of International Film Festival Of India (IFFI-GOA) 2024.
