- She was the singer for the original version of "J'avais rêvé d'une autre vie" from the French concept album of Les Misérables, a song later adapted into English as "I Dreamed a Dream".
- She was a French singer-songwriter, known for her 1982 single "Africa", a number three hit in some European countries. The single sold more than a million times.
- Although already ill, she appeared in 2016 in the Paris Cabaret Sauvage.
- In 1992, was invited to sing at the Centre d'Essais du Pacifique (the center for nuclear testing), in the atoll of Mururoa in the Tuamotus, where over 138 atomic bombing tests were conducted by the French government, throughout the decades. Laurens would soon contract cancer, and subsequently succumbed to the deadly disease in 2018.
