Dave spent 10 years in the US Marine Corps as a combat correspondent.

While filming inside Al Capone's cell for Mysteries at the Museum, the cell door kept swinging open during filming. Dave asked the crew to lock the cell door with him inside, which they did. "Al Capone" was once again incarcerated at Eastern State Penitentiary.
