- He was awarded the Emmy for his essay and reporting on "The Olympic Park Bombing at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games.".
- He contributed sports stories to CNN/SI, the 24 hour joint venture by Ted Turner and Sports Illustrated magazine that ended in 2002. He was also co-anchor with Nick Charles who died in June 2011 on CNN's Sports Tonight. He covered golf and National Basketball Association for the TBS and TNT network.

- He was raised in Ocala, Florida and graduated from Florida Junior College (now the College of Central Florida) in Ocala, Florida. He was a sports writer for the Miami News in Miami, Florida; The Atlanta Journal in Atlanta, Georgia; and sports anchor for WXIA-TV (NBC Affiliate in Atlanta, Georgia) before beginning his 27 years with Turner Broadcasting when he joined CNN in 1984.
