Melissa Nickerson is a New Zealand-based photographer and filmmaker whose work is grounded in exploration, environment, and human experience. Drawn to remote and physically demanding locations, she approaches image-making as an immersive process-seeking out moments that feel lived-in rather than constructed.
Working across photography and film, Nickerson brings a cinematic sensibility to both documentary and narrative spaces. She has worked as a Director of Photography and commercial photographer, while also contributing to productions on set, expanding her practice into collaborative filmmaking environments without losing a strong personal visual voice.
Her work is driven by a desire to push both physical and creative limits, creating imagery that engages audiences on a deeper, more instinctive level. Originally from the United States, she has been based in New Zealand since 2009.
