Biography

  • An extrovert since birth, Howie began his theatrical career in 5th grade at Claflin Elementary School in Newton, MA as Paddington Bear in the production of "The Sausage on the End of the Nose." Despite sausage not being kosher, he soldiered on and completed his performances.

"Picking" up on that role, he played the role of the police officer in Claflin Elementary's 6th grade production of... well, he can't actually remember the title of the production, but will insert it here when it comes to him.

After a brief acting hiatus, Howie was offered the lead role of Lyle Britton in Newton North High School's Theatre Ink production of James Baldwin's dramatic "Blues for Mr. Charlie." (No witty quip related to this role.) Showcasing his linguistic prowess combined with his thespian skills, Howie played the supporting lead role of Tommy in "Annie Get Your Gun"... (wait for it) ...in Hebrew...at the Hebrew College's Prozdor high school in Brookline, MA. During his senior year, Howie landed the leading role of Curly in "Oklahoma", again performed b'Ivrit (in Hebrew.)

As a student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Howie honed his craft taking acting classes with Doris Abramson (while trying to not get caught impersonating her.)

Howie's film work began as one of four stand-ins on the Paramount Pictures/Sherry Lansing Production of "School Ties", a 1950's period piece filmed in 1991 starring Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris O'Donnell, Brendan Frasier, Zjelko Ivanek, Kevin Tighe, and Peter Donat, among others. Howie also played the role of the Ambulance Attendant, having to learn on the fly how to drive a car with "three-on-the-tree."

Subsequently, Howie has worked on a variety of motion pictures including: "Celtic Pride", "Adam Sandler's "Hubie Halloween" (Netflix), "I Care A Lot", (Netflix) "The Sleepover" (Netflix), "Godmothered" (Disney+), and "Don't Look Up" (Netflix.)

His recent television work includes: multiple episodes of "Julia", a series celebrating the life of Julia Child (HBO Max), Showtime's "City on a Hill" with Kevin Bacon, and FOX-TV's "Against the Law" with Michael O'Keefe.

In the late '80 and early 90's, Howie worked as a stand-up comic beginning with open mic nights on Boston's comedy scene including: Catch a Rising Star, Nick's Comedy Stop, and The Comedy Connection. Eventually Howie began (unbelievably!) to get paid work and worked alongside such acts as: Rich Jeni, Joe Rogan, Tom Cotter, Lenny Clarke, David Cross, Marc Maron, Mike Saccone, and Kevin Meaney, among others, who all went on to major stardom and success - leaving Howie to ponder what might have been had he been blessed with a sense of humor.

Howie is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA.
