Benoît Sabatier is a French writer, director, producer, and cultural journalist. He first gained recognition as a prominent rock critic, contributing for over two decades to publications such as Technikart, Rock & Folk, Schnock, and Gonzaï, and publishing the essay Nous sommes jeunes, nous sommes fiers: an exploration of French youth and rock subcultures. Alongside his work in journalism, Sabatier expanded into filmmaking, forming a long-standing creative collaboration with writer-director Marcia Romano. Together, they wrote and directed three independent, self-produced Marseille-based films - Le Moral des Troupes (2012), Amore Synthétique (2015), and Pastis Brut (2017) - often referred to as the "Marseille Trilogy". Marked by musicality and raw energy, these films forged a radical cinematic portrait of the city, revealing a side of Marseille rarely seen on screen. In 2024, Sabatier and Romano wrote and directed Fotogenico, their first official feature film.
