Douglas L. Lieberman
After earning a 1972 MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago in collaboration with the Goodman Theatre, Douglas Lieberman founded The Other Theatre in Chicago, producing and directing two early world premieres by David Mamet (1976, 1977) and a world premiere by Canadian poet Henry Beissel (1978). He wrote television narrations for Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn ("Choosing One's Way"--1995 Emmy Award) and Pat Morita ("Britannica's Tales Around the World" 1993), and many short films that won awards at film festivals in New York, Chicago, Athens, Barcelona, Zagreb, and Washington DC. Lieberman divides his time between screenwriting and music composition. In 2024, his short screenplay "Choosing One's Way" was a Semi-Finalist in the Shore Short Film Competition, and his choral adaptation of text by Herman Melville was a 2024 Finalist in Sacramento's 47th Annual Festival of New American Music. Lieberman lives in North Carolina with his wife and at least two dogs.
