A graduate from Pima Community College with three degrees in the same field. (Liberal Arts, Associates of Art and Digital Film & Video Arts). Yuri has also done numerous internships as Assistant of Production and Editing Assistant at Gecko and BigfootHD. He has also done work both as a videographer and an editor for a nationally televised show called "In The Americas With David Yetman". In 2011, aside from being involved in several short and feature film projects, Machado started a production company Authentic Productions LLC. In partnership with fellow filmmakers, he also operates a film Festival called Short Film Showcase. Authentic Productions LLC is now helping to produce a show called Step Up To The Microphone and is one of the content providers for well known TV, Web and Radio Network called Voice America. In 2011 Machado also wrote and directed a short film called S.O.L., which is now touring the film festival circuit. When it screened in Tucson, it sold out.
- IMDb mini biography by: Julio Rodriguez - Without any financial help from the state of Arizona or the proposed incentive, Yuri Machado teamed up with other local filmmakers in Tucson to achieve quality film productions. The result of this effort was a production company that has talents in different aspects of film producing. Since then the group has completed many projects and began paving a major path up the ladder for themselves. This path began in 2011 with Yuri Machado's directorial debut with his short film, "S.O.L." Regarding the filming process of the short, Jean Jessup said "The camera work was just about completely awesome for this low budget short filmed entirely in Tucson, AZ." Regarding the work and potential future that Machado has ahead of him Jean also said "I can tell from this short that Machado has a lot of potential and a great film career ahead of him." The production company knew they were going in the right direction when "S.O.L." gained the attention of The Arizona Daily Star who reported "The 125-seat screening is already sold out at $5 per ticket."
In 2011 Authentic Productions was involved with, "Lionhearted." A story of a young boy and his journey to becoming a young man following a nuclear attack on his hometown. Directed by Tim Marin, a fellow filmmaker of Machado's and a continuous contributor to Authentic Productions. Film reviewer Rush Urbalejo had to say about Lionhearted that "The camera-work is amazing, the direction is wonderful, and the cinematography is spectacular. You can almost smell the desert air while watching this story unfold. It is absolutely unbelievable that this film was made for $200. Hollywood could learn a thing or two here." For this particular film Machado and crew worked with child star, Keyghan Burns. After the film screened his mother raved, "Every time we are more and more blown away! Thank you so much for being so professional and having the ability to work so well with a child actor, which not everyone can do."
With great reviews piling up for this company Machado had no problem looking for other major projects to get involved in through his company. Such as "The Elevator," directed and written by Zacharia Lorenz, this is a story of a young man who keeps bumping into a beautiful woman in an elevator and tries to muster the courage to talk to her. What makes this film so unique is that it doesn't focus on dialogue so much. It was almost like a silent film comedy from the 30's. Put together with very little money, this film could easily have been made for several thousand dollars, yet it somehow produced award winning results. With it premiering at The University of Arizona Festival Campus MovieFest, and snagging the Best Actor Award (Drew Grubich), as well as a nomination for Best Comedy. This films was recently also chosen to screen at Hyart Film Festival where it will compete agains other films in the category of comedy.
One of Machados' and Authentic Productions finest work was producing the mockumentary/comedy "Is Blake A Douche?" The short follows a news reporter who investigates if a man named Blake Bradford, who's accused of being a douche, is indeed, a douche. Rush Urbalejo had to say "Authentic Productions continues to find ways to give us wonderful films on a shoestring budget." Quoting the premise of the film as "a good one, and the acting, for the most part, is far above what you would expect to see in a film of this budget." This company decided to put all these projects together and screen them for the public in March of 2011 as a Best of Screening at the Grand Cinemas Crossroads 6 Theatre. Film reviewer Jean Jessup was present at the screening and got a front-row seat and gave a strong review with how each film was put together by saying "From their shorts, I can see their greatest strength and talent is in cinematography and editing," something Machado and the rest of his colleges pride themselves in. Local Tucson Publication EMOL Entertainment Magazine had to say "2011 was a big year for this production company and amongst the many projects they were involved in, several short films were produced, written, or directed by the company." Local actor Mark Klugheit that was involved in a few projects from Authentic Productions had this to say of the premiere, "Last night's "red carpet" presentation at the Crossroads of their best work of 2011 - "Lionhearted," "Elevator," "Is Blake a Douche?" and "S.O.L." -- showcased just how much quality can be put on the screen for very little money when people have talent and dedicate themselves to their work." Arizona Reporters said "Authentic Productions is quickly becoming one of the major film companies in town that range from television shows, commercials, and short films."
As if 2011 wasn't tiring enough with just the short film category, they were involved in many other projects such as creating music videos, most notably N9NEFest 2011 which was a local concert which was headlined by such acts as DJ Abate, DJ Eye and Lil Jon. The company also created a Doritos commercial for the National Super Bowl Competition, and like nearly all their projects, had no budget to work with. A side from these projects Machado made contributions to "In The Americas With David Yetman." A New HD Television Series by multiple Emmy Award-winning producer & director Dan Duncan and internationally reknown writer, host, & producer David Yetman, takes a fresh look at the lands that make up much of the Western Hemisphere. Each country contains landscapes, peoples, and history that have not received the attention they deserve on the world stage. In the Americas with David Yetman undertakes a new approach to travel and adventure. Machado's major contribution was in editing, camera work and audio recording. This Television Show is distributed nationally by PBS and its now on its second season on the making where Machado is scheduled to go to Brazil to help film 2 episodes. Machado also dipped his hand in local commercials teaming up very closely with ReActivate, which is a local shop that sells gently used and new active clothing. He's created several commercials for this company and has helped spread the word about its noble cause that promotes and sells new and used active clothing.
In 2012 Machado and the company accomplished to do some work in TV on more than just a local scale. He recently teamed up with Matthew Earl Jones, on a project called "Step Up To The Microphone." This is a web series distributed by VoiceAmerica and is geared towards the ages of 8-12 on their involvement in the music industry. Here he directed a few episodes and even edited a commercial to help publicize it as well as editing some episodes himself. He has many credits to his name through the popular website IMDb where he is credited with music videos, documentaries, short films, etc. This site is a major factor in the film industry for it shows the credit the individual has attained professionally. This year Machado has also worked side-by-side with local up and coming hip-hop artist called Young Tre on his music video, "Cops and Robbers." Being a major factor for the production of the video in directing, editing as well as filming it.
This year Authentic Productions also teamed up with the comedy group, "Peanut Butter Hour." Machado has been involved in producing, directing as well as editing several comedic sketches thus far and is in the early stages of their news type comedy program and in production of their comedy/mockumentary "Sportscasters: Out To Lunch." A 20 minute short film that gears to make fun of sports casters and how seriously they take their jobs. This year the company is also making an attempt to expand their horizon and is finding success in television as well and is in the pre-production phase of a healthy cooking show, entitled "Diced." Which will take a healthy approach to cooking with a different Chef each week showing the different array of foods and meals that are easy and simple to make. Although it has achieved so much in such a short period of time during its existence, this company has no intent in slowing down and even though the company has several projects on the horizon Machado and the company have been working on several short film projects on the side such as, "Abby," a short film by Jose Ochoa, a film student at The Art Institute. Donating his time, home and equipment to the project Machado has contributed on this project as Cinematographer, Location Scouter and Producer. The film looks to use a tragedy to provoke its audience to feel sorry for its protagonists. It took advantage of the topic of new love and companionship and twisted it with a car accident. Another recent project Machado is involved in is "Downtown Tucson." A 20 min documentary about the downtown tucson revitalization and the street car construction. For this project Machado is Director, Director of Photography, Interviewer and Producer.
"S.O.L." seemed to have started it all in less than one year ago and Ian Scott Whittaker, fellow actor/co-writer, of the piece had this to say of Machado's work and his involvement in the project explaining how important of a factor he is. "He is the glue that holds us together." Julio Rodriguez, a long time contributor for the company said "His love for filmmaking inspires others around him to perform their best on a film set."
