Bryan Gentry is a Newark based Director of Photography and Canon Explorer of Light whose work spans feature films, television, documentaries, and branded content. Renowned for his cinematic approach to storytelling, he combines visual artistry with cultural authenticity to create compelling and emotionally resonant imagery. Since beginning his career in 2013 on Discovery ID’s The Perfect Murder, Gentry has earned recognition for his distinctive visual style and masterful use of light, color, and atmosphere to shape narrative and evoke emotion.
Recent credits include the feature-length documentaries When a Witness Recants, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2026, and March Forth, which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2026. His body of work also includes acclaimed projects such as Stax: Soulsville, USA, the Peabody Award winning documentary series, and the feature-length music documentary Luther: Never Too Much, for which he received a Black Reel Award nomination for Outstanding Cinematography. Additionally, he served as Director of Photography on HBO’s critically acclaimed civil rights docuseries, Eyes on the Prize: We Who Believe in Freedom Cannot Rest, a contemporary re-imagining of the landmark PBS series that examines America’s enduring pursuit of racial justice.
