Mini bio

  • Matt Downton trained at LIPA, and has worked in both film and theatre internationally.

His first feature length film Quanna premiered at the BAFTA and his debut theatre role took him from Manchester, to off-Broadway, New York, with the production The Ripper's 5.

Playing Brad, a simple minded and selfish thug in the multi-award winning film The Elaborate End of Robert Ebb (Canal+ Prix/Best Art Direction/Audience Award) took Matt to cinema screens around the globe, showing in over 21 countries and in more than 200 venues.

Landing the lead role in another award-winning film The Brother Code (Short Film of the Month, nominated - Best Story) Revealed a much more vulnerable side to him. Playing Jason, a tender loner who struggles to come to terms with the loss of his brother.

Matt's featured TV roles include WWII documentary Narrow Escapes, and international series UFO'S Declassified.

Matt played the lead antagonist Gordon, in the uplifting and heart-warming film Aviatrix screening at various venues across East Anglia, including his hometown cinema, as part of the Cambridge Film Festival.

Being cast as George, a lead role in WWII psychological drama Magpie, gave Matt an opportunity to delve deeper into characters with troubled minds.

Whilst at home with playing the introspective and brooding underdog, Matt also enjoys physical roles, and is skilled in swordplay (both left, and right-handed) and stage combat. Craving adventure and new experiences, and never far from his camera, he travels often and mostly ends up jumping in rivers and snowboarding down mountains.
