Adam Michael Johnson is an American Director of Photography, Cinematographer, Director, Producer, Editor, and Ufologist from St. Louis, Missouri. Shortly after earning his Master’s degree in Digital Cinema from Lindenwood University in 2011, Johnson began working under Academy Award-winning filmmaker and visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull, who became his longtime mentor and one of the most influential figures in his career. Over nearly a decade of collaboration, Trumbull passed on the artistry, discipline, and technical innovation that helped shape Johnson’s distinctive cinematic style. Together, they worked on several groundbreaking productions, including UFOTOG; the world’s first narrative feature photographed and projected in native 3D High Frame Rate (HFR) 4K at 120 frames per second, pushing the boundaries of immersive filmmaking.

Drawing upon that mentorship, Johnson has built a diverse career spanning feature films, television, documentaries, commercials, and reality programming. His work is recognized for combining cinematic storytelling with technical precision, allowing him to move seamlessly between large-scale productions and intimate documentary filmmaking. Throughout his career, he has served as a director of photography, cinematographer, camera operator, gimbal operator, drone operator, director, producer, and editor on projects for major studios, networks, and independent productions.

Since 2013, Johnson has worked extensively alongside acclaimed filmmakers and musicians Christopher Saint Booth and the late Philip Adrian Booth, collectively known as The Booth Brothers. Their collaborations include the NBCUniversal/Syfy Original Film Dead Still (2014), Never Blink (Gravitas Ventures, 2025), and Death 4 Dinner (Gravitas Ventures, 2025), among numerous other film and television productions.

Johnson’s documentary and unscripted television credits include Sweetie Pie’s (OWN), MFF: Mom Friends Forever (Nickelodeon), My Strange Addiction (TLC), and The Final 19 (Buffalo 8). His experience across documentary, reality television, and commercial production has further refined his ability to capture authentic human stories while maintaining a polished cinematic aesthetic.

Beyond filmmaking, Johnson has been an active ufologist since the age of 18, dedicating decades to the investigation of unidentified aerial phenomena and related scientific anomalies. Throughout his research, he has worked alongside renowned investigators Ted Phillips, Jacques Vallée, and Stanton T. Friedman, contributing to field investigations and documentary projects exploring one of the world’s most enduring mysteries. A defining chapter in Johnson’s career came with Sheriff Justice, the Netflix television prequel to Smokey and the Bandit, where he served as director of photography.
