Biography

Belgian native Michiel Thomas is an Emmy® winning documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles, CA. His debut feature, Game Face (Netflix, 2016; Peacock, 2023), screened at 50+ international festivals and won a dozen awards. His second feature, That's Wild (AMC Networks, PBS, 2021), played on five continents, earning five awards. His third, Gemmel & Tim (Tubi, Dekkoo, Revry, 2022), was selected by 30+ festivals and won eight awards.

Thomas' sports doc series Ballin' Out (Q.Digital/Outsports, YouTube) earned a Daytime Emmy® win for Outstanding Short Program in 2025.

His short Relighting Candles: The Tim Sullivan Story, co-directed with Zeb Newman and executive produced by Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone, premiered on Hulu in 2024 and received Special Recognition at the GLAAD Media Awards. Together with Newman, he co-directed Unleashing Hope: The Power of Service Dogs for Children with Autism, produced by Rosie O'Donnell and licensed by Hulu/ABC News.
