Biography

In 1978 he became orchestra leader-arranger with Jasperina de Jong for two theatre shows, 'Thuis best' and 'Tussen zomer en winter'.

He initially planned to study medicine, but after proving himself a skilled pianist, Arend Nijenhuis persuaded him to start a jazz trio between high school and university. This led him to become the pianist for the house trio at the Blue Note Jazz Club in Berlin.

In the 1960s, he played bass with Toon Hermans and later became pianist, orchestra leader, and arranger for Wim Sonneveld. He can be heard on "Het dorp" (The Village). Afterward, he returned to jazz-rock and toured with his band Third Eye, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and France.

The concert at De Trucker in Pijnacker, recorded by VPRO and remastered in 2009, is considered a milestone in progressive jazz-rock. Huydts emerged as a true Rhodes master, with energetic solos on electric piano and analog synthesizers.

Until 2007 he played with various bands in Dutch jazz clubs and organised and presented a series of Sunday concerts in Hilversum.
