Biography

Member of APAN (Association of Black Audiovisual Professionals - Brazil) and AAWIC (African American Women in Cinema - USA), Mariana is a visual artist, writer and filmmaker. Mariana has been working as a screenwriter and director for film and television projects since 2010. Having worked for production companies such as Prêta Portê Filmes, Bananeira Filmes, Conspiração Filmes and Coqueirão Pictures. Mariana graduated in script writing at the New York Film Academy and in Editing at Escola Cinema Darcy Ribeiro.

Mariana Luiza is a filmmaker and visual artist whose work explores themes of Black identity, belonging, and colonialism. She holds degrees in Screenwriting from the New York Film Academy (2008), Editing from the Escola Cinema Darcy Ribeiro (2018), and Business Administration from the Universidade Federal Fluminense (2005).

She is the creator of *Linha DE Cor*, a trans-media art and education project that investigates how Brazilian laws and racial policies, since the country’s first Constitution, have marginalized the Black population and promoted racial whitening. She also created the art exhibition *Constituinte do Brasil Possível*, exhibited at Centro Cultural Correios (CCC), Rio DE Janeiro, 2024 and Conselho Nacional DE Justia (CNJ), Distrito Federal, 2025.
