Maria Weiss

Maria Weiss is an Austrian film actress and classically trained opera singer (University of Music and Performing Arts Graz), specialising in period drama, arthouse cinema and complex female characters of historical worlds and eras.
She trained in Method Acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York and completed Cultural Studies at Sorbonne University in Paris (Diplôme de langue et civilisation française).
Weiss is particularly recognised for roles in which acting, movement and music merge into a single expressive language. Her recent screen work includes The Blood Countess (2026, dir. Ulrike Ottinger), in which she appears as an on-screen singer and conductor performing with the Koehne Quartet, and Drei Tage mit Schubert (2026, dir. Astrid Bscher), where she performs in a dual role as The Miller's Daughter and the poet Luise Hensel, embodying both a fictional muse and a historical literary figure. She also appears in Untitled (dir. Michael Glawogger & Monika Willi) as the solo voice of the film's score (composer: Wolfgang Mitterer).
As a mezzo-soprano specialising in early, Baroque and contemporary music, she has received critical acclaim for her vocal artistry, including the Ö1 Pasticcio Award and multiple "CD of the Day" distinctions by Radio Klassik.
She works fluently in German, English, French, Italian and Spanish in European and international film productions and major opera productions.
