Biography

With more than two decades of acting experience, Jonathan Woodhall is a versatile Vancouver-based actor with a commanding screen presence, bringing authenticity to dramatic characters while excelling in physically demanding roles. His screen credits include lead performances in independent features, along with principal and supporting roles for AMC Studios, National Geographic, ReelShort, and more.

Jonathan describes his purpose as an actor this way: "Millions of people are going to watch this show, and out of those millions I guarantee at least one of them will have had a horrible day. They’ll come home frustrated, put on what we made, and escape into a story. How wonderful is that?"

In recent years, Jonathan has enjoyed some of the most rewarding work of his career. He starred as James in the independent feature Transtemporal and went on to have a great run in vertical productions, often finding himself cast as the villain. Those projects have collectively seen tens of millions of views, with one of his personal favorites being You Fired a Genius Surgeon. He also fulfilled a childhood dream by appearing in National Geographic’s Hitler’s Last Stand, the kind of historical programming he grew up watching. Eight-year-old Jon would be very proud of adult Jon for that one.

Jonathan’s relationship with acting began at an early age through his father, Peter, a seasoned stage director who first introduced him to the craft. That early interest led Jonathan to Capilano University’s Acting for Stage and Screen program, where he graduated with a diploma in 2012. Shortly after, he worked with filmmaker Gigi Saul Guerrero on one of the earliest productions from the newly formed Luchagore Productions.

Jonathan’s physical background has also become an important part of what he brings to the table. He holds a second-degree black belt in Kenpo Karate and represented Canada at the 2016 World Martial Games in Germany, returning home with two gold medals. In 2018, he stepped into another world entirely when he began training as a professional wrestler under Lance Storm and Eddie Osbourne, eventually performing under the name Fire Wasp. Between Martial Arts, Pro Wrestling, some minor stunt work and motion capture, Jonathan has developed a particular love for roles that allow him to combine acting with physical performance.

Outside of acting, Jonathan co-created Holy S*** Reviews with longtime friend Malcolm Masters, a film review and parody series born largely out of their shared love of movies and making each other laugh.

More than twenty years after he first started acting, Jonathan still approaches the work with much of the same enthusiasm that drew him to it in the first place. There are still characters he wants to play, stories he wants to tell, and a great deal he wants to accomplish.
