- After her time as director of the Spanish Antarctic Base, she was manager of the National Antarctic Research Program and responsible for the coordination of international scientific projects carried out in that territory.
- Graduated in Biological Sciences 1957 at the University of Barcelona, where she also received her doctorate.
- Among other distinctions, she received the Gold Medal for Scientific Merit of the City of Barcelona (1996), the Narcís Monturiol Medal for Scientific and Technological Merit of the Generalitat (1996), the Creu de Sant Jordi of the Generalitat (2003), the Environment Award of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (2006) or the National Prize of Culture of the Generalitat (2013).
- The first woman in the world to head a base in Antarctica.
- Began working at the current Institut de Ciències del Mar de Barcelona - attached to the Higher Center for Scientific Research (CSIC) - in 1960, when it was still called the Institute of Fisheries Research, and was its director between 1994 and 1995.
